Default Scissors for 'Nano Silk' 12/0?

Hello, can someone please advise me on a really decent pair of scissors for cutting Nano Silk 12/0? I like tying with it but have a pair of Dr Slick (general purpose) that will cut it at their axis but just fray it with their tips which I need to use when finishing the fly.

Thank you... Andrew.

Old ones Don't use quality scissors with any kevlar-type stuff, buy cheapies and dump 'em after they get blunt.

I disagree, I tie almost exclusively with Semperfli Nano Silk and Roman Moser Power Silk and find that you need good quality super sharp scissors. I use Iris scissors that are super sharp and they cut it perfectly every time (although always under tension and don't use the tips), Personally I think buying cheap is a false economy and annoying when you don't get the performance you want.

Been using the nano silk for the past week and was having problems cutting it at first, But then found that if you pulled the silk very tight before cutting that it cuts easy.....Hope this helps

Rubis are very good scissors.

As shootandfish says, the secret is to cut the stuff under maximum tension. The problem I find with it is that it won't hold black dye (I don't know about other colours). You finish up with a dirty grey, but they still sell it as black.

Truer words have never been spoken, or in this case, typed.

I hear what you say, but I'm not about to use my quality scissors on this stuff.

I buy these 10 at a time at a quid each on eBay, use 'em for a month or so then give them away or dump them. They'll still cut nylon leaders etc so handy to clip onto a retractor.

Thank you for all the replies, I do always cut it under tension which helps but it is still not a perfect cut every time. Thanks 'shuck raider' for your advice re the 'disposable' scissors, I understand where you are coming from on this however I think I will do as I always do and buy the best I can afford and trust that quality ones will not blunt too quickly. Looks like I need a decent pair of iris scissors...

Thank you... Andrew
