Default Big Heavy Beads

I want to tie up some "sacrificial" nymphs for bugging this winter. Where can I get the biggest tungsten/lead beads from?

Thanks.

How about splitshots epoxied onto the hook, you can always colour them up with enamels

Bead size should, I believe, be proportional to hook size, so consider using two smaller beads to achieve a similar result as one larger bead, thus keeping everything in proportion.

If they truly are sacrificial, I'd do two things - use lead instead (cheaper) and load it onto the top of the hookshank. Your hook will then drift hook point up - less snags, less losses, and when it does get jammed in a log, you've not lost an expensive bead.

I use roofing lead, cut into small strips with scissors, then shape it with some pliers - makes a nice underbody - just whip it on, dub and rib over the top - perfect caddis, or stonefly nymph depending on size and colour.

Example of the same method - this time a sz12 grayling bug:Click the image to open in full size.
