Default Scissors.

I am needing to get an upgrade on my scissors. I do a lot of tying using deer hair, so I am quite hard on them.

I am thinking that I need at least two if not three. One for small, fine work. One for deer hair - muddler heads, deer hair wings etc and one for general work.

Any thoughts or recommendations?

Ok I'm a scissor freak, can't resist them I admit it . For a heavier pair I recommend the Twisted Loop ones from Flytying Boutique. Although they are good with delicate stuff it's those I reach for if elk/deer hair needs chopping. They have remained sharp for months.

For delicate work I like the curved ones from Fords Flytying, again they stay sharp. They are out of stock at the mo but Ed tells me more will be available soon. His micro tip tungstens are also very good. Phil (FTB) has some called tungsten carbide which are excelent too. Ed's scissors always sell out quick for good reason . Pm him and gee him up-we need more

Chris.

For hair work you are better off getting ones with a serrated blade eg Anvil. For regular I use Dr Slick arrow point. But most of all I use these:

So freakin' sharp it isn't funny. Easy to use as just grab them (no stuffing fingers in loops) and ultrafine.

I must have about a dozen pairs of scissors for different applications. Mostly I use 2 of them, 5" (+/-) optical iris scissors with both straight & curved blades for 90% of trout work & the others for stuff they're not suited to. They are incredibly sharp, you can easily take out individual fibres from peacock herl. I tend to "carry " them in hand all the time when tying, to save constantly putting them down & picking them up again.

For deer hair, I use a pair of Wilkinson curved nail scissors mostly, but have Tiemco's & others if the need arises.

Doubt they're the same. I bought mine from the manufacturer in a box of 10. They cost more than £4 each. These ones are surgical grade. After 2 years of use my first pair are still extremely sharp.
