Default Another attempt

Whats your thoughts, tried to go deeper into the curve of the hook and add some colour and less dubbing.

kamasan b400 size 16.

Getting better/worse. Any comments welcome. Any thoughts on the kamasan b400 hook?.

Wrong hook Gary. You need a curved shanked hook. Not sure what model number for kamasan. Sometimes called buzzer/shrimp or grub hooks.
You've certainly got the right idea and that will probably catch some fish.

The b400's are all I have worth playing with tonight due to the varias going straight. Tomorrow might be more fun.

Try tying some shipmans buzzers on them Gary.
Body: seals fur/dubbing colour of choice.
Rib: fine wire/tinsel, again of choice.
Add breathing filaments at head and same at tail, white hackle fibres or white poly yarn.

Just tie on shank of hook, no need to go around the bend.
The fly is fished in the surface film and lies flat in the water.
You could even use CDC as the body material. Another technique.

The 2487 are the ones, be careful they don't straighten out on you when into fish.
The 2457 are heavier so may sink even with CDC.

Good luck.

The kamasan b400 #16 in this thread caught a fish today and my first fish was on a TM 2487 size #18 both hooks had no issues.

I caught another on a Tm 2487 and the hook came out of the fish but had not straightened. The Tm 2487 get the thumbs up but I knew it would work as I could tell it had more strength when tying on it in the vice.

I lost 3 fish on varivas hooks x2 size #16 straightened and so did the #18. All on a 9ft 5wt g-tec on 3lb 6oz tippet. So everything I have tied on varivas is going to my old man for river fishing little 1lb and below brownies. In my opinion there no good for stocked stillwaters.

But the upside is I caught and landed 2 fish on my own tied flies.
