Default Take or Turn away

I have been practicing my cdc shuttlecocks since starting to try tying Saturday just gone.

I've done various combo's but suspect less is more in terms of colour for my fishing.

Its hard going on small hooks any tips for a killer shuttlecock.

Anyone think I might hook a fish on this for my first caught fish on one of my own flies.

Simple fly.

Hook is a Varivas 2200BL-B size 18

Hare Dubbing Black
x4 Black cdc feathers

Cheers Gar

P.S Dont forget I am just guessing as I go along, no instruction or help so far, but feel free to critique.

Should be okay. You could take the body further around the bend of the hook. Again you could rib the body. I'm havinig good success with black body and clear pearl rib. The rib can be easily cut with trouts teeth so coat of varnish before and after ribbing helps.

Good luck.

Definitely a take with that one matey, looks good to me.
As wobbly says a rib would be a good addition.

I've used the same hooks on still water bows and they do tend to straighten with anything around the 3lb mark. So I generally keep them for the rivers.

Yep John (Locky) gave me some good advice after I got these hooks. I have some tiemco 2457's on the way in #16 and #18.

Hi Gar ,
I've found these two links fantastic patterns this year ! I've also been tying only a short while "around a year" but found them very easy to follow .

As i was told "the only thing that will hinder you is your own imagination"

Hope this helps .

It'll definitely catch.
I agree with Wobbly Face - I would take the body a little further round the bend and add a ribbing. A different coloured tying thread can make a good rib.
Personally I like a slightly thinner and shorter thorax - I think it helps the fly sit better in the water but maybe that's just me.
