Default Silver saltoun

Another traditional pattern, the silver saltoun calls for the lightest wing feather of the starling which is what I've used here but any lightish wing feather would do. This ones tied on a size 14.

Very nicely tied Mark

It reminds me of a blae and black but skinnier and a different tail.

Thanks darwin dabhoy and flywhisperer, the hook is an FTB103, now how many times have I been asked that question

Here's a woodcock and green, i've used dyed olive partridge for the throat instead of dyed green cock hackle on the original. Tied on a kamasan size 14.

The Saltoun as I know it has a purple floss body and throat and tail are of red game cock hackle fibres. Rib and wing are as your fly.Meant to be a good fly when the early olives are hatching in late april early may

Thanks sarg, yes I tried to tie it with a spider feel to it hence the lighter hook and slim body.

Two little beauties mark! I love that sparse partridge on the Woodcock & Green.
Your Silver Saltoun is exactly the same pattern that is in John Veniard's "Fly Dressers Guide", even down to the "3 black whisks".
