Default Boar hair??

Good morning all, trying to find out what one of the pro's were using at the Bffi 2011 to create a very simple but effective looking bug. It looked corixa nymph without the antenna and he said he was using boar hair the one strand whipped up the hook looked 2 tone light brown and black and was very flat similar to stripped peacock quill. We had a look for some whilst at the fair but the boar hair there didn't look anything like what he was using. Does anyone have a clue what it could have been?

I didn't see that one, but it sound's more like peccary or javalina. The only importer of it I know is Peter Smith of Niche, but several people stock it.

I was tying flies with Peccary at the show, which is tachnically a type of wild boar, It is in very short supply at the minute, I got mine from Jens Pilgard from Denmark and believe I had the last of his stock.

I got a patch of peccary not so long ago from Phil at the flytying boutique.
If this is the stuff it is not flat but round and is quite strong to tie with.

Someone gave me a big bag of wild boar hair in return for some trout. Is it any use in its loose state? It seems a very coarse material. Thanks in advance

It is very coarse and is used by the single tapered hair almost like a thick guard hair.
I tied with it for the 1st time recently and had a post somewhere on here but this is the one.

There's some on ebay from Flymakers, Aberdeen, just type in 'wild boar hair' and it's £1.60 inc. p&p for 50 bristles in a range of colours.

Arkle,

Peter at Niche BUYS Peccary from the same supplier I use in the States.

Sadly that supplier is rather ill at the moment so not sure when the next batch will arrive.

Kind regards
