Default Blue dun wet

Continueing my series on traditional wetflies, (ooh sounds quite snazzy does that) this I suppose is one of my favourites, the blue dun traditionally tied with blackbird for the wings but i substituted them ofcourse. this ones tied on a kamasan B175 size 12.

Well tied mark, looks very nice indeed. Impressed with the wing, mine end up splitting.

Beautiful tying that Mark, well done.
I was fishing with a pro fly tyer from this forum on Monday, and he commented on how good your flies were, and I agreed.

Very well tyed as always, Mark!
What quill is that though? It looks like the thin brown quill from the normal peacock herl, rather than the lovely grey, dark edged quills from the eye section of the feather.

No criticism intended, it's just that if you use the wider, marked quills from the eye, it would compliment your excellent tying, and transform a very nice fly into a beautiful fly! Tie them in by the root/broad end too.

Top stuff Mark.

I had a conversation with Midlander this year when he averred that you weren't a tyer unless you'd mastered wing slips. You have, and it's an inspiration.

Nice tie, and a very nice looking fly.

If I was been very critical, the wing is a little long and high for me and could maybe do with being a fibre or two thicker but as I say, that's being very picky.

Purely a personal thing, but I don't like beard hackles - they look a bit 'dead'. I like to tie in a hackle as normal then pull all the fibres down and take a turn or two over the top to hold them down, I pick out any that won't stay down if it's important. To me they look better like that.
