Default Hook advice (cdc shuttlecocks)

Looking for a little advice please.

Can anyone suggest a good quality size 16 and 18 hook for tying up cdc shuttlecocks for use on stillwater trout. A black hook would be nice to try.

Thanks
Gar73 newbie about to try fly tying so be nice.

I like kamasan b401 18's for wee drys, shuttlecocks, f-flies and beetles mainly, they work fine for me.

Kamasan B175.......the only hook i use for shuttlecocks now. Lighter hooks just don't sit right in the water. Use plenty of CDC though. Just my opinion.

Kamasan B160 size 16.
Pity they don't do them smaller.

I find that they straighten easily........they are also too light to make the fly 'cock'. IMO.

Try one of these - Varivas 2200BL-B or ask Gareth to knock a few up for you http://www.ffisw.com/?p=7852

Hi,
For all emerging flies I use the Kamasan B400 emerger hooks in all sizes from 10 up. I like the slightly longer shank particularly when tying bubble CdC emergers because you can have a longer body to compensate for the bubble.
Best regards,
~David

Gary,
I know where your fishing and I know how hard the fish fight,so you need a strong hook, but you sometimes do have to fish 18`s.I use kamasan b160 in 16`s(the occasional one does open out)but mostly I use tiemco 2457`s in 16 and 18,I have never had one open out and they are mega strong. They are a heavy gauge wire so they cock as well.Hope this help`s?
