Default Predator Fibres

Fish&Fly's Simon Young takes a look at a new synthetic wing product to the UK called Predator Fibres.

"If you have ever tried to cast a large baitfish pattern or a Salmon Templedog made from all natural materials then you will appreciate that its hard work due to the amount of water retained by the fly."

Read the review, and started to get quite excited at the price, as I am a great fan of EP fibres and for smaller patterns, Toby's Funky Fibres.

Was going to get a pack to see if these predator fibres ARE actually the same as EP, or whether like Funky Fibre, they are of a slightly different consistency, and was really disappointed to note that they are actually a quid dearer than the price stated in the review

At a fiver a pop I can get EP cheaper on my trips to the USA, although the extra length of Predator could be useful at times, notwithstanding which, in the unlikely event of me running out of any particular colour of EP, these will still be a handy and easily available option if indeed they are the same as EP.

I will get a hank to test, as it may well be that if EP & Predator are not the same, you will not, be able to utilise both within the same tying, as they may not blend together, as I have found to be the case with EP and Funky Fibre.

Will let you know the outcome, which is important to me, as I have drawers full of both EP and Funky... And I really do mean drawers full

Hi Toby,
I do also use your Funky Fibres, like Brian I use many products together, the bright colours I like to blend in with more natural ones with a bit of Angel Hair as well to give a variegated effect. I have found that the black real EP fibres vary in denier occasionaly feeling course with more "crinkle"
What I would like to see is a good equivalent to McFlylon and the EP Fibre dubbing brushes in the large size.
