Default A spanking monkey?

Here's a pattern that I've completely glossed over so far and never tied, a "blue monkey" I spotted it while thumbing through my toilet copy of flies of Scotland (sorry Stan, but it gets a decent read on the bog!!!). I've subbed rabbit underfur for the blue monkey and had to use grizzle for the throat hackle 'cos I don't have any grey hen. I think its a very pretty looking fly.

Hook: Wet fly #10 - #14
Thread: Black
Tail: Teal fibres
Rib: Fine silver wire or silver oval tinsel
Body (rear third): Yellow floss (I used yellow UTC thread)
Body (Front): Dark rabbit with lots of grey underfur
Hackle: Grey hen (I used grizzle)
Wing: Duck
Cheeks: Jungle Cock

Any comments greatfully received - Cheers, Steve

Thanks very much for the kind words, the bottom fibre on the tail is doing my head in though, I wish I'd chopped it off (or got it right in the first place)

Kevin - the hook is a Drennan wet fly supreme, I got a batch a while ago from a shop in Cardiff that was stopping fly stuff, they all look like that, they seem to fish OK though. Oh, and That DVD I promised is on its way

No, browsing the forum as it happens.

Nice job Steve, and nicely lit too. Me eye keeps wandering over the background though

Cheer lads,

The background was an experiment - I just put the fly in front of a pot plant (not THAT sort of pot plant!). I don't think I'll be repeating it.

The JC is a pain to light properly, it's teetering on the edge of blowing the highlights.

A v old sea trout fly derived from the grey monkey. The ones I have seen use light golden olive fur for the back half and grey fur for the front. Good for brown trout--Its quite a bright fly. I cant get duck to sit right and use folded bronze mallard.
Isnt the variation the fun?
