This one is easy and you can change the colours to suit the different aphids such as black fly.

How about Ffly on small hooks, just use white or light natural cdc for the wing. Body is just tying silk to suit.

I've got some size 19 hooks, will they be small enough or down to 20's or smaller?

Sainty,

If they are taking aphids, I have found it is often the case you must go small - perhaps a #28 or a #30.

My main aphid pattern is tied in a #30 and is tied with either a wing of antron or a small tuft of CDC.

It depends on how small the manufacturer thought their 19 should be. Hooks size for size vary enormously between manufaturers and within a manufacturer's own range.

The one in the picture is on a 20.

Having had problems with size 18s bending and snapping at the bend (admittedly probably from using too heavy a line) what are reliable hooks to use in these very small sizes?
