I haven't used any Talon hooks, "but I know a man who has" & he reckons the ones he tried & uses are perfectly okay.

I have them in #12 streamer pattern and for what they cost for 100 they are an absolute bargain. I haven't had any problems with them.

If you enlarge the ebay photograph you will see that the finish on these hooks is very spotty and this would suggest that the tempering process is suspect, or that they are old hooks and have been stored in the damp. The angle of the eyes also appears different on the different sizes but that could just be a trick of the positioning.

Why compromise with the one bit of equipment that you cannot afford to have fail on you?

It alaways amazes me that fly tiers look for the cheapest hooks and are prepared to risk losing the fish of a lifetime to save a couple of quid. By all means search out genuine bargains but until you show me a major and reputable manufacturer using these hooks I'll pass.

I have tried several "cheap" hooks, unbranded or from little known makers over the years and without exception I haven't found anything that I would fish with. I still go back to the stalwarts, Partridge, Kamasan, Hayabusa Tiemco etc. I'm not saying that all the hooks produced by these brands are necessarily good either but their ranges cover all my need.

By far the worst I've tried were Royd with Carrillions' bulk boxes not far behind, the royd hooks could be bent out of shape with 6/0 thread!

Regards

I've used Talon hooks in the past and whilst they are not brilliant, they are far from being the poorest quality on the market. As for Royd hooks - the only ones I would even consider buying are the heavy wet black nickel, which are (and I'll whisper this), not bad at all.

Not sure if these are the same 'Talon' hooks we get on this side of the Pond, but they're a good hook. That said, as noted above, these look pretty dicie ('Murcan for questionable).

Personal opinion only, but with these .. I'd pass.

I did notice the finish and to be honest it does not look great ,thats why i was asking on the forum,I am always amazed by the price of flies at game fairs ie 10 bachs for £3.00 etc and i notice the hooks seem to have a bronze goldie finish .

I never seem to able to buy these hooks and i did wonder if they were talon as the colour is similar.

I normally stick to kamasan but always looking for a bargain
cheers

"mm" just a thought here, but never, ever buy 'second best.' You'll always know and you will end up buying the best. First bit was money down the drain.
