Default how to tie a black diawl back? anyone

Hi Guys,

Bascially just need some advise on materials to use to tie a black diawl back?

My mate showed me a black flie very very slim fur body in black no noticable black ribbing and just red holographic tincil eyes. I think the tail was out hen feathers off a tying cape.

Question is how do i tie up the fur body and what fur is the best to use? as the fly in question has been nicked by a trout that snapped my mates leader. but felt tough as nails and was not seals fur which is the only kind of fur i have got.

The fur body seems tied to be kinda tough ie hold a nice carrot shape and was firm to the touch.

My normal verions of diawl back generaly look like works of art ,and are just about as fragil, ie one trout and the ribbing is gone etc.

Hi Icejon,
Try using black flexi floss as a body, not furry but works very well, and easy to do too, lots of tension when windind to start, ease off towards the eye for a nice carrot shape. I catch fish with these.

A few of the "trade secrets" include using a fine thread such as 14/0 & choice of herl, then being able to trim it. Also choice of hook makes quite a difference to the way & depth it fishes at.
