Default Comparadun "Variation"

Hi Guys

In the last couple of weeks ive discovered the "exquisite pleasure" of dry fly river fishing (Yes i know its a emerger but its dry enough for me)

Last year i tied a variation , cant remember where i saw it ? I caught a cracker on it last wednesday So i tied more and last night it was the only fly i used on the river it went down very well, i netted 7 fish, lost 3 fish and rose dozens !

As you can see its has a hackle spun behind the deer wing and clipped underneath, which i think give an excellant wing effect.

Yes i know its not "pucker dry fly" and its not "pretty" but am having a ball, learning loads and having huge amount of fun and satisfaction

What i really like about this pattern is its quick to tie and very effective !

That's dry enough for me to call pucker. Only question I have is "why spin and clip the hackle rather than just mounting the deer wing and fanning it comparadun style?"

"The Foating Fly" by Malcolm Greenhalgh.
The only dry fly he uses with a full hackle in a daddy longlegs. All others are floating flies, i.e, sit in the surface film. Just like your variation.
Good fly by the way.

Good question........??

Last year i tied all sorts of simple drys, i looked on thousands of web pages ! Came across this variation, tied it , fished it , and it works well !! So just stuck with it !

To be honest i find it floats better than the original and i think the hackle looks very "wingy" look. And it catches the light making it easier to spot

I really like this one. Any chance of a recipe? (not too sure about a couple of colours...)
