Default 'Allrounder' Challenge

Fished out my last cast at 15.55 on sunday and won't make my next untill Early March Sure,I could fish through the winter, here and there, now and again, but it's a self imposed if reluctant lay-off. I really don't care much for the cold,or for grey, grey, grey. Grey skies, grey water...grey grass! The birds seem quieter, and any animal with any sense curls up in hole. Vegetation dies away....I even miss nettles. And no smells! ......wild flowers, wild garlic....and cowshit, how I miss it. Although I never want the season to end,I kinda like, and need the break. I use it to reacquaint myself with friends and family....and to socialise...and drink a bit ....cos I don't seem to do much of either of those things in the fishing season.....there's only ever one winner
However....there's always fly tying ,and that,I can never stop. Which brings me round (eventually) to the point of this thread.

Anyone fancy a 'challenge' (could make this a monthly thing...see how this one gets received first eh?) to make the long nights a bit more interesting?

I came up with a pattern the other day...nothing ground breaking...pretty standard fare, but as came out of the vice jaws,it struck me that on it's day, right place, right time,it would be more than capable of seducing Brownies,Rainbows,Salmon or Sea Trout. It wouldn't be the first fly in the world to be capable of this,I know,....Bibio,Dunkeld,Invicta to name a few. I even know of one angler who landed a grilse on a size 14 black gnat whilst fishing for brownies on a Sutherland loch But that was an accident...obviously - so I thought it might be an idea to get a little tying challenge going,to come up with an allrounder, designed to be up to the job of tempting anyone of the four aforementioned salmonids....and whatever jumps on,you can say that you were targeting it specifically

I've got a rough plan for the 'rules'...prizes etc,but for now,in priciple,.....anyone up for it?
Don't go posting pics or anything yet, just post and let me know if yer in for now.

I've never fished for Salmon or Sea Trout, come to think of it I've never fished the fly on running water

What the hell, count me in I like a challenge

If moustique can be a Duckling then I can tie river flies

All welcome......just register yer interest on here and get yer fly in to me by Dec 31st

As Tony Hopkins once said.....'Okey dokey'.... Format, rules, regulations blah blah bla.....Feel free to tell me if (or rather, when) I'm talking pants.

Brief - Imagine yer off to the West of Ireland ,or Scotland .....or even Wales for a week, fishing river, loch, lough or llyn. Browns,Rainbows,Sea Trout and Salmon will be on the agenda....but you can only take 1 fly - design one for the job.

Tie yer fly (just the one) on any of these hooks - Double:10 to 14 or Single: 8 to 12 (wouldn't realistically really go any bigger for trout,or smaller for Salmon)

Materials?...absolutely anthing goes,no rules here.

The plan is to get all the entries in for new year, then, let you lot be the judges.I thought the format might go something like this....

Tie yer fly...then post it to me (I'll P.M. all entrants with my address) When all entries are in,I'll post pics of each entrants fly....and voting can begin.
(I'll work out a scoring structure later) then, when we have established a lucky winner....I'll post him (or her) their prize...a fly from each participant.

You can either take the pics of your fly yourself, before sending it to me,then email or P.M. me the pic (don't post it on here) or,if you prefer,I'll take the pic for you when I've received it. My shots won't be as good as the likes of Hans, but they'll be ok.

As I said, don't post any pics, just email or P.M. to me and I'll post them all at once - ready for 'judging' .....should keep the anticipation and excitement at fever pitch!

Everyone ok with that? Thoughts please.....
