Default Flies for south west scotland

I've just put a box of flies together for a trip up to southwest Scotland in the next couple of weeks sometime. If any of you fellas stationed up there know what the best options are regarding flies for the lochs in the area it would be much appreciated as I still have time to tie up a few more if need be.

cheers

I was thinking somewhere around the Loch ken area or the galloway region if that helps, any recommendations of good lochs to fish in this area would be great and which flies/techniques are good bets for July up there? thanks.

There are a few lochs in that area.
Ther is Loch Whinyeon, brownies wild and stocked I think, Lochenbrek, rainbows, Loch Roan, rainbows, Loch Dee, wild brownies, Earlston and carsfad which I think are both brownies.

Most are club waters and not commercial fisheries so info can be hard to find. I have only fished Lochenbrek and Loch Roan in the recent past, both respond to typical rainbow tactics no suprises.

Not evr fished Whinyeon, Earlston or carsfad and last time I fished Dee was over 20 years ago. The only thing I could advise about Dee is that it is best fished late evening into dark.

I had a day on Loch Morton near Thornhill a few years back. A harsh sun meant hard fishing but it's a beautiful, quiet spot below a ruined castle, run by the Buccleuch Estate who have other waters, too.

Loch Ettrick, also near Thornhill, is another nice place for a cast if you're over that way.

Whinyeon if full of pike the now. was up there the other day, waste of time really but yes lochenbrek holds a greater head of fish.

Loch dee is worth the trek if you want some good wild brown fishing and it is worth waiting till evening. take a tent and camp. lovely setting. The Lochs north of St Johns Town of Dalry is good i.e Carsfad may even have some ST in them at the bottom end. Theres a good fishery near Castle douglas ( i have forgotten the name of it but the tackle shop in CD will sort you out )

My family have a holiday home at St Johns town of dalry and a caravan at Sandgreen near Gatehouse of fleet. Theres some good river water near Newton Stewart if you want some sea trout and salmon fishing

Regards

Cal

Some wonderful fishing to be had on the loch Dee a nice rough track at the back of Clatteringshaws loch... Loch of the Lowes... so many to mention as well as already said... Mckinnells in Kirkcudbright have permits for local waters too.... Never ever be without a Kate Mclaren or Pennel... Beautiful part of Scotland..

Sorry about any mis-spellinks
