If your'e just starting to tie spiders i'd say start with the classic spider patterns i.e. partridge and orange, waterhen bloa, snipe and purple, dark watchett, dark snipe and orange, snipe bloa, woodcock and red, stewarts black spider etc.
So all you would need is say a decent english partridge skin - hen (this will last for ages and you can pick and choose which size feathers you need). I got mine from cookshill and it's an excellent skin.
Pair of woodcock wings
Pair of snipe wings or preferably a snipe skin for a larger selection of feathers (can be hard to get hold of and you won't get that many spider hackles out of them, so as long as your'e not going onto production you'll be ok)
Pair of waterhen wings (again can be hard to get hold of but worth it if you can).
Starling skin
Jackdaw scalp
Moleskin and waterrat skin and ofcourse the appropriate pearsalls silk bobbins.
Traditional patterns are great for learning how to tie them correctly and in the right proportions, you might be better starting off first on size 12 hooks and work your way onto the smaller hooks as you get better at tying them.
