Default Feedback on daddy long legs please

Attempting to tie a DLL for the first time, planning to fish the Peaks District end of July. I'd appreciate some feedback and suggestions - thanks

Hugh

Nice fly!
Have all the legs trailing, as that's what happens to the natural when they sit in the film for some time & start to get waterlogged.

Green body, I've only ever seen them with a pale khaki brown body but regional variations & all that. Hackle point wings will all but vanish as soon as they get wet, as the fibres draw together. It might be worth trying reverse tied c.d.c.

Is this an "on the top" version or an " in the film" one ? If it's the latter, & I've always found them more deadly by the way, trimming away the lower hackle fibres works wonders.

However, it's a cracking good fly for a 1st attempt & will doubtless take fish.

I agree with Steve. The delta winging is good as that prevents the leader from twisting. It will still catch because the legs will end up trailing anyway after a few casts/fish.

That is very neatly tied. My only comment would be to loose the "antenna" off the front of the fly otherwise a very good looking pattern.

Nice pattern, like the wing construction. Interesting point from Arkle on the removal of the lower hackle fibres, something I will try this year.

I agree-don't bother with adding the front antenna/legs as the fish won't mind and it's extra fiddly tying them in. Also trimming the underhackle is a great touch. Nice fly and believe it or not it doesn't hurt to experiment a bit with colours-I've even had success on fluorescent bodied ones and I've yet to see a Daddy in nature with a fluorescent body.!

Thanks to all for the feedback, all legs trailing is a little quicker to tie. Good to know that I am on the right track. The advice of some very good fly dressers is much appreciated.

Hugh,
Nice fly,I'm sure You'll have some fun using that this summer.
A fly I've had some success on is just six legs and a few turns of hackle on a size 12 grub hook,Anorexic Daddy I think it's called.Give it a try,and thanks for posting.
Cheers Kev.
