Default curious?

I was just wondering which material do you prefer when tying your flies natural materials or the synthetic?I have been tying for a good few years not show flies but ones that catch fish if you know what i mean, with both types of materials and i am convinced that i catch more fish when i tie a fly with natural materials than i do when the fly is constructed with synthetic.

Im with you on that one.
I do prefer tying with natural materials, some of the synthetic stuff is great too.
There are new synthetic materials being added on a regular basis, Im not sure what to do with most of it though. A lot of which you could probably source yourself at a fraction of the cost.

I'd tend to agree, but can you count dyed natural materials as actually natural though?

I tend to read a lot and everything i have have read states "there is no such thing as solid colours in nature"so why is it that most stuff we buy mainly dubbing is one solid colour?

It's horses for courses, i reckon. I wouldn't be without gold, silver and pearly mylar for example. But nor would I be without bog standard hare's ear.

I don't think I have ever tied a fly purely out of synthetic materials, so I don't think its as black and white as you suggest in the OP. I think synthetic materials are a compliment to our natural materials that can enhance or change the way a pattern looks or fishes. Certainly in the way I try to use them.

There are probably exceptions to this, e.g. lightweight synthetics used to tie very large predator/SWFF flies though, but its not an area I am familiar with.
