The tail looks fine to me, it looks a great tie.

Only thing I would say is the point on the hooks looks suspect (although it could be the pic)

Thanks for the comments, have been very unwell the past 2 1/2 so have done virtually no fishing at all....tied half a dozen in the end

All comes back after a few goes :-)

Yes, the hook did look suspect...a little varnish on the point

With all the rain we are having im going to tie some sewin flies and try to get out in the south wales area

Cheers

Matt

I think it looks fine. IMO the tail length is always down to the tyer and how long they want the tail to be

Very nice fly Matt. Nice proportions. You certainly haven't lost the touch anyway. Hope you keep well and get back fishing.

Oh So True Andy. Interesting the difference in what a given type of fish will/won't 'want.' Steelhead are notorious for being 'short strikers' and a 'tail' that goes much beyond the curve of the hook will just give you buckets of frustration.

You can actually feel the 'tug' but no steel in the jaw.

Ah well, that's why they call it 'fishing' not 'catching.'
