Might look crap to you Billy, but that's a fishing fly if ever I saw one. I'd take that any day over some 'textbook' tyers (who shall remain nameless) offerings that I've seen.

Don't beat yourself up over it.

Some of the flies you see on here are tyed by guys who have tyed thousands of flies or tens of thousand of flies.

Practice, practice and more practice.

There is one eminent tyer in the states that maintains that you start getting close to tying a good fly after having tyed a 100 of them!

Me I am on that curve but the fly you have shown there is good.

Billy, there is nothing wrong with that, it'll catch fish. My own flies are not text book, but they catch me fish.

Nothing wrong with that!

We all have different styles & I often wish that mine was more rustic or perhaps naturalistic is a better word.
Clinical tying is one thing, but the proof of the pudding is if you can catch on flies you've tied.
I wish I could tie a fly like Lucian or buzzflyfishing or indeed Gerry (artifly) but it's very hard indeed to change styles!

A trout probably doesn't give a rat's ar$e if a couple of turns of ribbing are completely out of kilter, or a thorax is a couple of pinches of dubbing shy of what tyer XYZ professes is the "correct" proportion to use.
The only exception is if the dressing is really shoddy & unsound, then sometimes flies might disintegrate & it calls into question as to why you follow a fly recipe at all, if what you're left with after taking a fish is a tail & some strands of body material!

It's enough that people dress & catch on their own flies since more & more people seem to buy them. The style of dressing is pure aesthetics.

That's b*"^!%*s billy, no not the fly but your statement. I've seen you tie some excellent flies on here and that middle dropper one you had on here lately was a great tie and I told you so at the time, I certainly couldn't have tied it any better than you and it's one of the most fishable flies I've seen on here in recent weeks if not months. Youv'e got alot to offer mate, now git off ya backside and git tying and git them on here.....pretty sharpish like

Theres nothing wrong with that fly,it has all the right characteristics to catch fish.I have noticed in the past that the quality of materials used can make a difference to the appearance of a fly but i tend not to worry too much these days as long as the materials perform ok

all the best Nick
