Default Bug Bond UV Torch

Hi there, just wondering if any of you are having problems with the torch supplied with the Bug Bond kit?

I've only been using mine a couple of days and the LEDs are already failing. 2 have stopped working altogether and another one's flickering. If any more go out the light won't be able to cure the resin at all at this rate.

I changed the batteries but it made no difference so must be the led bulbs. I'm thinking this could be real expensive if I have to replace the torch every 5 minutes.

Welcome to the forum!

Have you considered contacting the retailer and telling them you have a faulty light?

Still, tee's it up nicely for a spot of bugbiond bashing. Haven't seen any in a while.

I have had mine for about 5 months without any problems, so has been said contact the company where you purchased it and if its faulty they will most probably replace it.

I bought mine of ebay for £8.00 and it does the job perfectly. It is the same as the ones you see on fishing websites at nearly double the price. Had it since January. If you are willing to wait on one coming from abroad you can buy them on ebay for 99p and £2.00 postage.

I am also experimenting with Mr Bond from Piketrek at £4.95 a bottle and I have to say it is excellent. Now that Bug Bond and Clear Cure Goo have some competition perhaps the prices will come down.

Would one of those light boxes for checking counterfeit money work to cure the resin, I can get my hands on one somehow, my dad's mate is a distributor for them so dad might have a sample somewhere

No idea but let's face it. You'd feel odd mimicking Doctor Who's sonic screwdriver using one of them.

Rollcast, the original Bugbond unit works at 395nm output. A u.v. banknote detector doesn't. it has a blacklight fluorescent tube in it & is a much lower output, so it will work, but not much faster than daylight.

Thanks guys, asked my dad about the lights and he said that even at the correct wavelength the power output on them is very small.
