I don't have a dedicated bench. All of my materials are packed in original bags/tags/etc and then packed into various gear bags, tying bags, ziplock bags, etc. Tools are in a 3-ring binder. The vice is a pedestal. The benefit is that I can take a container and tie anywhere, typically in the game room watching TV. The downside is that I have to dig out whatever I'm looking for and pack it all up at the end.

For your circumstance, I'd just close the lid on the hook box and put it on a shelf or in a drawer. Don't need it to be out and about. If you do so that you can visualize, then I'd make a permanent sheet of a piece of stiff card with all of the hooks tacked to it with labels. Then you can gauge size and shape from a card and dig out the specific hook. Basically a reference card.

thanks
rick

I use Myran fly boxes for my hooks. The 18 compartment box is 6 1/2" x 4" and is capable of storing approx 3600+ hooks dependant on sizes. I use mainly 12-18s and could put 2-300 in each of the 18 compartments.

Two boxes, one for nymphs and one for drys is more than enough storage for me. The boxes are very tough with solid hinges and close firmly. 6.50 each-cheap as chips. Mine come from Ted Carter fishing supplies (google). The little yellow thingy in the 1st pic has a magnet at one end, handy for easy hook removal. Hth.

Chris.

If you have a 'Hobbycraft' near you - they have a 20% reduction on all of their containers, including the cabinet styles.

The Ikea boxes have been discontinued. They were from the 'Fina' range - there may still be some in your local Ikea store, but not here.

We had a thread on flytying storage here recently, some neat (and not so neat ) ideas on it
