Default Look out! Another rookie has arrived!

Having been a lurker for the last week or so, looking at the skill being demonstrated here and looking at the array of patterns around. I used to tie, albeit very badly 20 years ago when I was a young teen as a way of entertaining myself, although I used to coarse fish.

A couple of weeks ago a friend offered to teach me to fly fish, so I broke out the kit again as I had no flies, this is the end result. These were just tied up using stuff I found lying around the flat and the local craft shop (feathers).

Simple red buzzer

The red Buzzer and 1 similar to the last 1 but with a yellow hackle resulted in this!! First ever fly fishing trip, first ever trout via any method and on flys by me

I can see this being the start of time consuming and beautifull pass time. I'm already planning the next trip in 2 weeks! As well as buying a lot more tying stuff!!

Good to see you catching on your own flies.

Get some more varnish on them so they are nice and glass like. That way they will look good and last alot longer

Andypandy, I think its the thead I'm using (Guttman sewing thread), it never seems to look shiny, despite about 4 coats of varnish.

I also have a habit of thing of good ideas but don't have the skill yet as this 1 shows.

Don't use sewing thread, msny of them have cotton which rots in the water.

Nice flies btw.

Welcome Celticdragon, if you want to see some materials & bone up on tying technique then as well as being here THE place to go is the British Fly Fair International - Home next weekend. But be careful with the plastic, as it'll soon get to it's limit !
The website's not the best around, but the show will more than make up for that.
