Have had a dynaking squire since 1998, works as well as it did then. Recommend the midge jaws. Beyond a certain threshold, buy whatever works well in your hands and stick with it.

Ijust upgraded to the Anvil Apex and Iam very happy with it,it will hold hooks as small as a size 32 is very easy to use/set up.If you check out Fly Fishing in South Wales all the flies tied on there were tied on the Anvil Apex model.
Sadly owning the same type of vice doesnt guarantee the same results as Gareth achieves but if this vice is good enough for Mr Lewis its good enough for me!
Steve.

In my opinion you should add the HMH Spartan to your list of vices . . .
Sorry if I've caused confusion

I have one and don't like it for larger flies, much better is a vice with inter changeable jaws for differing size brackets, also managed to chip with a duff hook with broke and lauched out of the vice

Have a look at his (Gareths) blog on www.ffisw.com micro patterns are his speciality.Iam a member of the same angling asscociation as Gareth and at our recent annual presentation Gareth gave a micro tying demo, although he tied on huge hooks(18s/20s)for the camera. He had abox of his own micro patterns for everyone to view in front of his tying desk and there were indeed size 32s amongst them.!

I have the apex and like it alot - solid piece of kit.

I had an issue with the jaws - little slivers of metal pinging off as if I had it set too tight (really didn't) so got in touch with Anvil and a new set of jaws sent out quick-smart. Must've been a dodgy piece of steel.

Can recommend it.
