Hi Rob

You are right of course but it can be a bit tedious selecting and placing a 1.5mm bead on a #20 hook as you would appreciate even with those blessed with youthful eyesight.

Just wondering if this tool might be of assistance over say a pair of hackle pliers which can 'ping' the beads across the fly tying area built in at great speed and present the added fun of trying to find the feckers!

The bead to which you refer belongs to the genus 'Pingfukit'.

Other members of this family can be found inside small fly reels, multipliers and any hook smaller than a 22.

Also applies to any item in a Haynes manual where it recommends 'disassemble with caution'. My garage is full of 'em, hiding in dark corners

You need to simply use a bit of Blu Tack, either rolled to a cone shape to select the bead of choice, it holds it securely whilst you insert the hook point, or stick the Blu Tack to the end of a tying tool or pencil and select the bead from there - works a treat.

Chris. Beads are gay, bead pliers are gayer. If you must use them, make use of your fingers and your dubbing needle.
