Well as my flytying kit is quite limeted at the moment i find myself using what i have to hand and being a very traditional country sort of chap i have all manner of materials to hand for my various things i make to sell and my hobbies, one thing i love to do in the winter months is to ferret rabbits for the pot,and as i am to tight to buy nets i make my own,the traditional material is hemp, this is a very nice material to work with for net making if a bit hard on the hands when making a 100 yard long net! so today i decided to see how the stuff would be for tying flies ,and here is the result a hemp mayfly nymph.
Hook: 12 long shank.
tail : pheasant tail.
rib: doubled fine copper wire.
body: hemp .
thorax: built up copper wire then the hemp, pheasant over top.
hackle: 2 tufts of pheasant tied either side.
then i tied the same nymph using green spun polyester net making cordage:
thanks for looking.
