Default advice

i have just been browsing the fulling mill fly catalogue for tying ideas, they show a klinkhammer style fly with a little ring tied in the ar$e end to attach a dink to. how would i go about tying that in as to insure it doesnt come away when a fish takes the nymph? thanks in advance for your replies, jon.

I would use one of those very small rig rings (often used for attaching lines or droppers) - piece of mono through the ring, ring held up to the bend in the shank and then the loop of mono secured down the length of the shank with tying thread.

Take care,

Nigel

then a dab of super glue at the top, not too close to the ring end or the mono could weaken..

Probably wise to coat the thread wrapped mono with supaglu to give more strength to the bind. (beat me to it emerger1981,)

That ring is not necessarily to tie a dink to directly. The tippet/leader can be threaded through the hook eye, then wrapped 2 or 3 times round the shank of the Klink, then through the ring. This allows the Klink to be slid up or down to allow the dink to be fished at different depths. Another way of achieving this is by having a short length of pole float rubber on what is left of the hook bend of the Klink, which it doesn't have to be by the way.
We all have our preferences though. Mine is to have the supporting fly on a dropper, that way the hook bend is clear of any hindrance. Also the 'dink' helps to sink the line to the dry/emerger, which also eliminates the 'micro drag' effect on the dry. Important presentation factors! Why reduce the supporting fly to a sacrificial addition when it can also be an effective taker of fish?

Why (resited Wye) complicate things? Some ideas just seam too much bother. Keep your tying simple and quick.
