That ring is not necessarily to tie a dink to directly. The tippet/leader can be threaded through the hook eye, then wrapped 2 or 3 times round the shank of the Klink, then through the ring. This allows the Klink to be slid up or down to allow the dink to be fished at different depths. Another way of achieving this is by having a short length of pole float rubber on what is left of the hook bend of the Klink, which it doesn't have to be by the way.
We all have our preferences though. Mine is to have the supporting fly on a dropper, that way the hook bend is clear of any hindrance. Also the 'dink' helps to sink the line to the dry/emerger, which also eliminates the 'micro drag' effect on the dry. Important presentation factors! Why reduce the supporting fly to a sacrificial addition when it can also be an effective taker of fish?
