Default CDC what breed of duck?

Just wondering if cdc comes from a special breed of duck or just all ducks. Been contemplating what to get my hens to hatch this year and was thinking of ducks anyway and I've just ventured into the world of tying so might I end up with something else useful from them apart from eggs and meat?

I don't think they come from one particular duck but many. The best feathers are still imported from France. The description "Cul de Canard" is attributed to 1950's era French tier tier Henry Bresson. In English Cul de Canard translates to "butt of the duck". However CDC Feathers surround the preen (uropygial) gland of many birds. This gland protrudes like a ****, from the back of the bird, slightly ahead of the tail. Waterfowl preen, recondition, and waterproof their feathers with oil secreted from their preen glands. As the size of the bird increases, so does the size of the feathers.

Find a friend who hunts ducks and pluck your own. Hard to beat in price and you have your choice of feathers - small puffs, soft stemmed feathers for caddis wings and hard stemmed ones for spinning in loop. And you get a chance to laugh in face of the guys who buy for £6 a gram... you have to wait till August though (or whatever is the duck season in your place).

emerger,

The petitjean CDC is fine for twisting and wrapping up bodies but I have always found the stems to be very thick and very little in terms of fibres off the stems.

A lot of people buy it because of the name - I am sure that many people do not realise that there are much better products available!

Kind regards

Petitjean CDC is very good, but the stems are brittle sometimes , yes I agree. The trick is to use the majic tool or loop, and then they are perfect, otherwise, when palmering the CDC, dont go all the way to the thick part.
For making nymph bodies with CDC, I really like the "Swiss CDC"
