Default any daddy longlegs flies without knotted PT fibers?

Hi gents,

I need to tie up a few for the local as I got quite a few looks on my other terresterials, but they were a little high in the column. The fish liked the plop, but not the float. I've been meaning to tieup some daddies anyway, so I'm going to put the two together. Problem is, knotting PT fibers isn't my idea of a good time. I also don't want to buy pretied ones as I have tons of tails already.

Any thoughts? I want something that will ride just in the film or sink ever so slowly (I can vary the hook weight for the right sink rate). If it matters, my local is a very clear, pretty small pond with plenty of fields and buggy stuff around it.

Thanks
Rick

Hi if you google fly tying the daddy long legs it come back with a pattern that uses a deer hair detached body (quite easy to tie) and it uses moose mane for the legs with no knotting needed, also you will find a video by David Strawhorn (i think his name is ) which shows you a step by step, Hope that helps

Just tie up a standard daddy with pheasanrt tail legs, instead of knotting them, just put a blob of glue where you want the joint. Or just leave as is.

Flexi floss makes cracking legs 1-1 1/2" long ( knotted or just free )
And it causes a big disturbance when you tweak the fly
If you want it to sink use 2 CDC feathers eather side layed flat for wings and it sits with the body just under the surface
See pic below
Ignore body as prototype
now I use floating line or inter for body with ends burnt and a drop superglue to make them watertight

Hope this helps
Oh and fly in the picture took 8-9 fish in 2 sessions

Get some legs knotted man. Not that bad if you use a pair of tweezers....

Take the fibre or pair I prefer. Use the longest ones. Form the loop of your over hand knot and hole with thumb and forefinger on one hand. Then use the tweezers to pull the tag end through. Done.

Other thing you said was they like the 'plop'. Daddies often tied with e bead head, lots of options from metal through plastic, glass etc to give you the sink rate you want. This will help get them trough the surface if you want.
