Default thick varnish

In this months TROUT AND SALMON theres a piece on tying thredless buzzers only using varnish It says to use THICK VARNISH ,I think they meant SALLY HANSENS how do you thicken it as its very runny and just drops off the underside and doesnt form a thorax like in the pictures. How about using bugbond as you can then shape the thorax the way you like it.
