Default saddle hackles

Hi

I've started tying flies for salt water and many of the patterns (e.g. Deceiver) ask for large saddle hackles.

These look quite different from the normal wet and dry hackles I'm used to. What are they and how to get hold of them reasonably inexpensively?

I've seacrhed for saddle hackles and just seem to come across very large expensive whole saddles. I don't live by the sea so only need to tie a handful of patterns- are they available in smaller amounts in mutliple colours?

cheers all
Will

Had a quick look at a deciever as i dont tie sea fish patterns and i notice they use the whole feather and not wound on like u see on trout patterns, waht you probably looking for in my guestimation :P would be rooster feathers £20 quid a saddle from Gac,depending on how many u want to tie is it worth buying small packets ,maybe a half saddle is the way to go. hth http://cgi.ebay.com/80-MIXED-COLORED...-/140442446516 mixed feathers here.
