Not a bad idea graham the wire could do with a little tightening but will certainly help in getting down and dirty.
What kind of hook is it on ?

I like it I fish a few lakes that this would work when the fish are on the bottom and the sun is straight up.

Nice work, the idea looks good but the body I feel looks to clinical, maybe some dubbing dubbed onto the wire to break it up a bit and add some fishy fuzzyness

Very good looking fly !

If you allow me- it would be better if you don't overlap wire, just wrap and pour lacquer or a bit epoxy and body will more even and secure placed .

It is regrding to appearance not for efficacy.
