Smile crippled midge needed
Hi Folks
I recently fished at Ravensthorpe and caught quite well on varnish buzzers but was stumped when the fish got preoccupied on something in or under the surface.
Trout smutting everywhere
Caught about 3 and was frustrated

Went in and found that an angler had caught 40 + on a crippled midge pattern , fished as a dry. Never got a look at the fly , blast.

Has anyone got a pattern and photo ?
I want pay back on the trout !!!

Try and find a copy of Trout & Salmon, where Stan featured it.

Or try fulling mill, they have some rough versions of it.

Or, put a seals fur body and a parachute hackle on a straight hook.

Stan uses the gallows tool method, and chops the post off. I just tie a quick parachute... and chop the post off, then dob a load of Sally all over it Hey, it's a crippled midge.. it's supposed to be a mess

It was a good couple of years ago Graham, not sure of the exact issue. I'll have a rummage and see if I've still got it.
