Default Help need in fly identification

Many, many years ago when I was still a student, my mother responded to my sudden interest in fly fishing by joining fly tying classes in Usk given by her friend Molly Sweet. Sadly I was never able to do justice to the efforts she put in on my behalf as my opportunities for fly fishing have been almost non-existent since, but I still have the flies made by my mother (now aged 90). I would really appreciate help in identifying them.

Images of all the flies are here. The individual flies are identified by row (1,2,3...) and horizontal position (a,b,c) and each has a left side and right side image.

The flies currently identified are:
1a - Pheasant Tail
3a - Dark Olive
3c - Silver March Brown
4a - Greenwell Glory
4b - Greenwell Glory
5a - Black Peacock Spider
5b - Hereford Alder
6b - Butcher
but I'd appreciate confirmation of these as well.

Many thanks!
Chris Wood

I agree with the identification of the teal, blue and silver and the zulu.

1b is a Peter Ross but missing the usual black hackle

1c is either a Mallard & Claret or a Grouse and Claret. Difficult to tell without a better shot of the wing but I'd say it was a M&C.

2a is a fairly beaten up Invicta - on photo 2 a-r you can just see the stubs of the blue beard hackle that was once there.

You have 3a as being a Dark Olive, but I'd have said 3a was a March Brown and 3b was the Dark Olive.

3c - silver march brown spider sounds likely. The silver march brown usually has a wing too

5c looks to me like a black and peacock spider too, just with wee gold tag tied on it.

Hope that helps.

Neil

2a I think is supposed to be an Invicta
3a Will possibly be a Harry Tom, if not March Brown.

Thanks to all for the help. I think I have a reasonable idea what these flies are now.

Clearly from your comments some of these flies don't look quite as they should, although none of them have ever been used. You have to remember that these were tied by a raw beginner!

Thanks again,
Chris

Hello Chris,
You might give the fly companies a look, many have their catalog posted online. Caledonia Fly Company, Fulling Mill or some of the online fly shops that carry traditional flies.
Best of luck to you.

Thanks for the info. My first idea was to do this but I didn't find any decent sites.
