Default Lively kate mcclaren

Another pattern,(Not new though) is the kate mcclaren but a golden pheasant body hackle put in front. These having been fishing really well last season.I love skating flies and if you put a small amount of floatant on the pheasant hackle it does do well.
Tail-golden pheasant crest
Rib-oval silver
Body-black seals fur
Body hackle-black cock
Front first hackle-red game long
Finished with the golden pheasant body skin hackle.
Head-black

Well tied again. Never tied kate mcclaren with long fibre hackles, always used shorter ones. Have some gp body skin hackles and never used them, will now.

Yeah, the long hackle on flies puts them in a league of there own.Try dying them black and claret and you have some cracking dabblers. The claret dabbler long wing done the job on corrib and mask the last 2 seasons

Default Katies

Fabulous flies and pictures. I tie a lot for customers who want me to reverse the hackles, black at the front with the red game behind. Though I recently did a batch similar to yours but the front hackle was silver mallard flank feather dyed a really rich ginger and like yours, the longer fibres really give the fly some life.
I never fail to be very impressed with the quality of the flies (and photograpy) on this forum, when I get a little more time I hope to contribute a bit more but I am not thinking of eclipsing the efforts I see regularly on here. Who needs magazines !!!
