Or is there another feather that is recommended/can be used?

Slug gun with some bread on the lawn
You are really wanting a skin for the best hackles for flies like Stewarts black spider.
Try Phil at spider plus or Steve at Cookshill.

The Wildlife and Countryside Act (1981) makes the unlicensed shooting of Starlings a criminal offence. And rightly so.

If Stewart was tying his spiders today, I suspect he'd be knee deep in the myriad genetic hen capes now available to the fly tyer in all the natural and dyed colours imaginable. Game bird feathers as a by product are one thing, but to kill a living creature with no food value just for a feather to get a pattern 'right' is morally reprehensible and risks bringing the craft of fly tying into disrepute. Cookshill or Spider plus is a much better proposition. Just my opinion, of course.

Slug one, skin it and feed the rest to the cat. Now it has a food value.

I am pretty sure your local pest control officer could get you one if you have run out of bread

Wink

Not got a neighbour with Cats...and a big garden ?

Always tripping over , standing on , catching notice of various dead wildlife courtesy of downstairs cat......it's the dopeyest thing alive , but I'll tell you what , it must be one helluva hunter , if there was any way of introducing it to cormorants I would......
