They're very well hackled Gaz, unlike the commercial ones I've seen tied like a standard parachute, but I'd recommend getting those bodies a lot skinnier or you'll find they won't sink through the meniscu, and they'll fish on their side. Dubbed Klinkhåmer bodies have never worked well for me, although very sparse SLF seems to do the job if required.

The patterns look great though

Hi Gazza,

I would say that they are a bit over-hackled. Three or four turns is usually plenty enough and I agree with Gus's observation on the bodies. You could also reduce the amount of polyprolene in the hackle post too. I usually just use one or two lengths of aerowing.

Spectrablend dry fly dubbing is good for the bodies, or anything else fine. If you are going to use coarser dubbings then I would include something water absorbent such as under fur or mole.

Otherwise, I would say that you definitely have the mechanics right, just some of the materials and overly enthusiastic hackling need seen to?

Good 'un,

Andy

I think they look good. IMO the hackling is your own personal preference. I tend to have more turns on than most as i find it helps the fly float better..

Nice tying

Andy

Au contraire. From Hans van Klinken, the originator of the KS - "Use a high-quality hackle with stiff fibers. Apply at least 5 wraps on sizes 16-18 and 8 wraps on sizes 10-14. The hackle can be oversized and kept hoizontal to achieve good floatation..."
