Default Klinks - What hooks??

Hi All
Thought I would try tying some Klinkhammers after finding a box of Partridge 16*Klink Hooks.
I thought the Flies turned out OK but looked HUGE for a size 16.

So what make/size hooks do you all use. Mainly fishing small still waters but will be having a couple of days on the rivers this year.

Cheers Gaz

Gaz,

Size 16 klinkhamer hooks will be fine for rivers as well as stillwaters.

The hooks might look massive to your eyes but what the fish see is only a small part of the hook.

Hans van Klinken designed the pattern for Grayling and used sizes 10 and 12 so a size 16 is relatively small for a genuine Kinkhamer.

Kind regards

Default hooks

hi gaz
I use size partridge flash point, 15BN Klink-hamer hooks in size 20 and 18, the 15BNX Klink-hamer extreme is a nice hook to, thats for small klinks, and slightly bigger ones i use the kamasan B100 in size 14 and 16, for slightly bigger flies, i use them mainly on small streams down here in cornwall! i had the same first impression as you though! hope this helps cheers zimtrout

Thanks for all the replies
Used the last of my size 16 Partridge Klink hooks, so I think I will order some more in 16/18/20 sizes.
Tied some on B100's but without trying them the hooks look alot heavier than the Partridge ones.

Cheers Gaz

I'm no conossieur of "ooks" but for me a klink should be tied on a klink hook. i.e post and hackle on the flat, and the body on the curve. Don't get me wrong I've tied and caught on klinks dressed on buzzer hooks, but it just doesn't feel right and without keeping figures I think they catch better on klink hooks.

The partridge hooks do look massive for the size but consider the flat is for dressing the buoyant part which I don't believe is the main attraction to a fish, though might look leggy eneough to help, I think the main attraction to a fish is the body which looks stuck in the film.

Also the curvature of a klink hook appears more open than a buzzer hook, which will make it larger in gauge length.

That might not be a bad thing, when i tie klinks in the smaller sizes i always go for the Klinkhamer Extreme hook because of the heavier wire. That said (i don't really know if this is true but) i seem to hook less fish on the extreme Partridge hooks. And have the smaller regular version bend out on me on some large fish.. I rarely fish klinks in small sizes because i think the power of that particular fly is the submerged body and the size..

I like the profile of the fly better on the original klink hooks, i tied them on Gamakatsu C12 and F22, the B100's, tmc 200R and a couple of days ago i tried TMC 108 spbl. I think the overal fly looks pretty good but still like them better on the original klink hooks. I never had any problems with the hooks in size 16 but the 18 and 20's, well i just don't trust them anymore..
