I'm not an expert on salmon/seatrout flies but these look very well tied flies Dai, what's the reason for the head being set further back from the eye like that, is it just your style or does it make for better movement through the water?

It took me a heck of a long time to accept the premise that 'less can be more.' Regardless of the size of the 'target fish.'

Absolutely! It takes confidence to fish a small dressing on a big hook too - I still find it incomprehensible that fish as notoriously fickle as Sea Trout don't seem to mind the great big bits of bare metal at either end of the dressing! I reckon it helps if the dressing in question is as well put together as these ones are!

Largest Winter Run Steelhead I ever landed (fly or otherwise) was on a #6 2x long low water tie hook. 26# 8oz. Before you all do a 'Wooozer,' the number of Steelhead that I've landed over 15 #'s can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Only thing that made that one work was 15# tippet material off a 9wt 2-hander ..... and a very, very, very long beach to chase him down.

Hi wm, It's a style i like to tie in, and like big hooks. that don't get taken deep on a take, and tie back to the bend of the hook.

This way, i don't have to kill any fish, as i have with small hooks in the past.

Plus the flies sink fast, Hope you get me thinking,

Dai.

Hi Andy, I fish a few rivers in south Wales, but the main river are the Towy, Tawe, Neath and the Taff.
