Lovely flies.

I've had my problems with varnished buzzers.........i've now found that by putting lots of thin coats on gives far better results than 2 thick coats. It helps eradicate the bubbles and gives a more even finish. The difficult bit is tying the right fly to be varnished and you've certainly got that bit spot on! just practice with the varnish.

Its not easy varnishing buzzers to a glass finish. Just takes practice thats all.

My biggest problem seems to be my eyes; I've had issues for a few months even threading a hook eye (usually late afternoon), I think I'll need to go for an eye test
The lighting in my room is not too good, so my (good looking to the eye) buzzers don't look so good through a 105mm macro lens

I need to practice more, but I quite enjoyed doing these. 9 flies: above 3 not too bad, 3 **** and 3 unfurled when I broke the thread!

Gary,
Those look fine to me If your after a perfect finish then try using a needle to apply the varnish in thin coats and don't play with it. Brushing can introduce bubbles. I kinda like a few bubbles... and I would be happy to have those on my cast.
Good glasses makes my life better get tested if you think it an issue.

Gary if you see this, what is the orange material? I really like that.
