Default Simplicity!!!

Sometimes i think the more simple flies are the most successful and flies nowadays can really be just too complicated. I am guilty of this alot of the time also.

These flies are just seriously simple and will catch fish just as well as flies that have taken twice as long to tie and have twice the amount of materials.

Golden Olive Dry

Nice flies, the colour combos are good.

Would also make good shuttlecocks

You are quite right on the simplistic approach.
PT nymph
hares ear,
black spider
Shipmans buzzer,
F fly
etc
I believe you could get through a whole season in both river and still water with half a dozen flies like these, and your catch rate would not suffer. Might even improve.
That said it is great fun using different materials to produce some of the beautiful creations seen on here.

Yeah i totally agree with you. But having said that i do like my flashy patterns also
