Default Black Stewarty

No great leap of the imagination here I'm afraid, just the titivation of an old pattern with a Peter Duri style twist.

Hook: Hayabusa 387
Thread: UNI-Thread, 8/0, black.
Tail: Dark brown dun cock.
Body: Black goose.
Rib1: Anti-static bag strip.
Rib2: UTC wire, red, sml.
Thorax: Black claret seal.
Hackle: Greenwells hen dyed hot coral, dressed Stewart style.

The arty shot..

The old faithful..

The last pattern (excuse the dodgy photo), curved or straight, has hammered fish for me for at least the last 15 years, so the duck fly colour scheme should do the biz, top or middle. Get on the value.

Reaaly like that, prefer your varianty with the thicker rib as well. Bit of flash can be a very good thing!

How durable are they? you rib over the goose or just use open turns with the feather fibre?

Nice stuff Alex
Im a big fan of the black pennell in various guises and may leave it off and tie your fly up to try on a cast instead.
Is the 2nd fly body quill ?

Very good Alex.
The Stewart black spider is one of my fav' flies of all time.
Good to see a wee twist on it.
Aint it amazing how the most simple of pattern catch all the fish.
Black spider,
pheasant tail nymph,
hares ear,
shipmans buzzer,
grey duster.
Better stop now or I wont be able to defend all those materials that I have filling up the house.

Nice mate. That'll be nobbling a few early season buzzer munchers. I must confess to having taken a liking to the Stewart/Duri style cruncher type thing myself, and have whacked a few out lately. I'll bung some up over the weekend.

Nice flies and photos alex, that wouldn't be the G10 would it? keep meaning to tie a stewarts black spider but never seem to get around to it, will maybe have a go over the weekend at a few.
