Default rolled wing?

What is the technique for tying a "rolled wing" ? Any help appreciated.

This is not in any way definitive, but I was taught the rolled wing by taking a slip of the feather intended for the wing and folding it in on itself from either side. I'm sure others, better qualified, will chip in and tell me how wrong I am, but I look forward to learning.

Regards

That's pretty much how I do it too. I fold the slip in 1/3 of it's width then fold it again so the slip is 1/3 of it's original width then literally roll it between my thumb and middle finger. This splays the fibres out a bit, I then tie it in using the pinch and loop method but then splay the fibres out a bit more with my thumb nail and tie down. I'm sure It's not the exact definition of a rolled wing but that's how I do it.

What i find is a nice easy way of rolling wings is

Lay feather to be used good side down on flat surface,

Acquire a cocktail stick wet stick with saliva place on feather edge nearest to you half way up the feather stalk end,( the end that is going to be tied in ) and roll stick slowly across to the other side of the feather..u will find the feather sticks to the cocktail stick as u roll it...

when completely across to other side pinch end and slide out cocktail stick.(do not put to much pressure on the stick just roll it lightly )

Bronze Mallard and that type of feather are ideal for this type of technique

Tie in normal pinch and loop the wing will spike as you are tightening down.

Give it a try nice and eazy T.K
