Default Minimal River box - Help needed

Hi all

I'm a bit of a minimalist on my local stillwater and it works very well from me. I have one small C+F box of flies - Buzzers, Spiders, Diawl, Griffiths, Klinks and Sedges and thats about it.

I am moving home soon and may have to give up the Stillwater stuff and instead make up a limited box of river patterns ( nymphs + Dries ) .Most rivers near me will not me limestone based from what I can make out.......

Can anyone guide me in this.

I'm thinking: ( in small sizes mostly )

Hares Ears
Pheasant Tails
Some Spiders
Spinners ( Ollie Edwards Semi Cirle Spinners look good )
Klinks - or DHE / Snoeshoe Emerger ( Bob Wyatt )
Griffiths Gnats
Parachute Greenwells
Sedges ( Hans Weilmanns one with trailing CDC ? )
Some F flies

Am I missing anything obvious?

All tips appreciated .........

Thanks a million .........

This year i have caught more Trout than ever on the river.
I only use :-
Dry
Parachute Adams (16-22)
BWO Parachute (18) and a lighter yellow version.
Tank Klink (14)
Ballon Caddis (12-14)
Greenwells Parachute (14-16)
F Fly HE and Olive (16-20)
Dirty Duster (14-16) In HE,Grey and olive.
Big Yellow (14)
Nymphs
PTN Weighted and unweighted (14-18)
Weighted HE (14)

That pretty much covers all for me.Its a great departure , last seasom i used to carry six 4 leaf C&F Boxes and a couple of smaller ones.
I guess the spinners have not started to fall yet, i might have to add a pattern or two.Initially there were March Browns in there but the tan Klink covered them sufficiently well.
I am experementing with Hans CDC and Elk and am not convinced yet, maybe i dont fish it enough. I also suspect that a griffiths nat may sneek into the box but so far the DD has covered them.
Hope this helps.

A few adult Mayflies, Balloon Caddis, and some weighted bugs!?

If you wanted to be real minimilist you could just go with PTNs in various sizes/weights and that would do.

Regards,
Terry

I would recommend that you also have some of the following -

Hare's Ear Klinkhamer with dark olive parachute hackle, 14s and down
Hare's Ear Klinkhamer with grizzle parachute hackle, 14s and down
Some generic black nymphs and wets 14s and down

and as advised by everyone else PTNs, weighted and unweighted.

You might like to make room for some sort of ant or beetle pattern. Perhaps some sort of foam affair.

Otherwise I always have room for Wright's Royal in my flybox .

Cheers,

.D.
