Default Steelhead Flies, with pics.

I tied these 4 flies on Saturday from a book called "Salmon Flies: Hairwing & Tube", by Chris Mann. They are the first steelhead flies which I have tied, and I think they look great.

They need a little bit more of the white wing tied in. The wing is suppose to be of white Polar Bear hair, I think the bucktail does a good job here though.

Please let me know what you think.

Orange Witch; I like this fly. The dressing is suppose to have a hackle of brown mallard, but here I have used teal.

Right needs more wing ,wrong polar bear is a totally different animal and fur as well.
Taske Fred A s advice have a look at Trey Combes book for SHead flys .
Also why tie for fish that are thousands of miles away ,dress for what you know and then refine them through watching how they fish and the target fishes reaction to them !!!Howevewr if you are going SHead fishing good luck and give us the reports !

It doesn't matter what people think about what is right or what is wrong with me flies. Because if I don't have the material, I won't be buying it just to tie these flies in.

I am also tying these particular flies because I wanted a change from Pacific Salmon flies.

I wont be fishing for steelhead. But I WILL tie flies to sell.

Why ask for peoples opinions if you are going to spit your dummy when they give them?

Andy's right, Polar Bear hair is a very different material to bucktail. I know I wouldn't buy a fly tied with the incorrect materials for the pattern, unless there was a good reason for the substitution. "I don't have the material, I won't be buying it just to tie these flies in." doesn't strike me as a good reason.

Not bad, Andy is right the wing needs to be thicker and not so long, check out the first row in this link http://www.flyfishusa.com/flies/stl-summer-select.htm
99.9% of the Steelhead flies sold in the US that call for Polar Bear wings do not have any Polar Bear fur in them. We can not buy it, sell it or trade it. If you do you will become bubba's ***** very quickly.
The only flytier's i know still using it have owned it for a very long time and can prove it and there are very few of them.
Most of the flies are tied with calftail, bucktail and i like and use arctic fox.
If you want some one to try your Steelhead flies send me some samples and i will let my client's try them .
