I have a rotary whip finish tool by Ken Newton which I rate highly. It makes finishing some much easier and quickier. At the moment though my new LAW has to be my favourite. Congrats on the wonderful design Hans!!!

Hi Neil,

Good to hear you are happy with your new vise, and thank you for your kind words.

Lawrence took my list of functional specifications and translated my requirements into a tangible product. The credit for the vise should rightly be his.

Cheers,
Hans W

Hello, my favourite tools cost nothing to me, good fingers and thumbs also plenty of slobber to stick things together, the eyes are past there best though!

Wear something on your feet in a fly tyers house.

My Thompson vice ,now well over 35 years of action with one new sett of jaws ,
does it for me !
Just got some DR Slick hackle pliers hope they do the job as have been having nitemares with the more fiddly ones (the boy plays with them and screws them up ,stretches the springs out of use and then claims it was the house elves)

I suppose I'd have to choose either my velcro or my dubbing needle as they both get used on virtually everything, but more importantly, they cost sod all and are 100% functional.

I suppose the dubbing needle wins though.

Well it has to be my new tying glasses. People where often amazed that I took my glasses off to tie. Well the years are taking control and now I need glasses to tie with. They are not quite reading glasses (focal length is different). Couldn't believe the difference they made. I hadn't noticed the sight going (no comments please).

I'd say my favourite tool has to be the dubbing whirl though. Just the simple Darrel Martin style one though.

Least favourite tool: the Edgin Hair Snare. Well, I say that but I've never actually used it .

Cheers,

I quite agree with you! I wouldn't use a whip finish tool, well unless you paid me quite a lot! Much prefer my fingers, I seldom loose them on the table or drop them on the floor! However you have made a choice to use a whip finisher. That means you can use your fingers but choose what you find better. That is exactly as it should be. Your choice is totally wrong.................. For me, that is, but then again my choice is totally wrong for you.

Cheers,
Alan.

My favourite tool, is my first dubbing needle. This was made for me by the gentleman who taught me the basics of tying 30 odd years ago, for my first lesson. An ordinary darning needle inserted into a nice hardwood handle.
