Default Last nights effort...

'Twas a busy night at the vice replenishing the fly box and fooling around with new materials... as you do.
Once the drudgery of the replenishing job was out of the way I came up with this cheeky little number....

Click the image to open in full size.

I'm a big fan of suggestive, vague impressionistic flies that represent nothing in particular but lots of things at the same time such as the Diawl Bach,Griffiths Gnat,GRHE etc and I was trying to create a pattern suggestive of maybe large-ish buzzers, gnats, heather fly,hawthorn... that sort of thing... so,obviously opted for black and the lite brite just seemed to want to be looped in as a wing. Not sure yet if the foam will be enough to keep it afloat, but I'm pretty sure it will fish in the film for a while at least and if it does sink it will be very slowly! Yum Yum!
Secret trials will comence next week

I'm going to call it the 'Gnatty Dread' ...I'm sorry,I know,I've always been pants at naming flies and rarely bother, however,I've made it my new years revolution to name all the flies that I 'invent' (if it's still possible to invent a new one these days?) and to name all the old un-named ones in my back catalogue!
Will unleash them upon you all slowly by way of drip feed.... you lucky lucky boys you...

Hook - Whatever,as long as it's light. Size 12 but any size is viable.
Body - Black foam strip lashed on with UTC Black 70 Den to produce segmented effect
Wing - A few strands of lite-brite 'polar pearl' looped.
Hackle - Cheap black cock. (happy medium between hen and genetic cock)

I like

Looks like it will end up sinking - slowly. But then, that does happen with terrestrial insects anyway

Cheers,

Very Nice

I'll certainly tie a few of those up!
