Default Less busy

Hey ho,

a little less busy for a change I was pleasantly surprised to find hare's ear quite nice to photograph too, the camera seems to understand what you want a lot easier and with less faff. I'm sure it's something to do with mid tones or something like that, Rob?

All that bright orange stuff I've been doing is a nightmare to take shots of Stu... They never turn out the same shade twice,I just pick the ones that are closest to the way I see them in daylight.

Ah I know what you mean Jimmy, strong colours can be a nightmare, especially if there are blacks in there too, I was glad of simple tones in this one.

That's about the size of it mate. As long as you're getting decent meter reading off the fly without a whacky background sticking its beak in, then hare's ear and that kinda business is very forgiving. Nicely mid toned, and not a lot of 'colour' going on. It's usually just a case of point and squirt without any exposure compensation

Nice tie mate... easier on the eye than the last one

Cheers Kev. Aye it can be a PITA to get right, but as Rob's mentioned it can be compensated with by fiddling with the EV one way or another. + for dark flies, 0 for neutral and - for lighter flies. Try a few stops either way and see the difference. It's difficult if the fly has a range of tones from black through to white, as one part tends to be either under exposed (the black) or over exposed (the white). Also worth checking the camera menu to see if it's set to 'vivid' or 'more vivid' as this can over saturate colours on bright flies. Finally you could always run the shot through a basic editing program to try and adjust any colour variations.

I will keep at it the biggest problem I have is that I can never get to shoot in daylight so always under lighting.
Im planning later in the year to get myself a slr and a macro lens as the compact can be a bit of a problem with the focus on certain types of flies.
Maybe I should just use the B&W mode and let everyone guess what the colours are

I have seen the odd outing before the snow covers it or the horizontal rain mind you if it would just warm up a bit I would be happy about another 10 degrees preferably.
